Bexley VS Peckham Town

BEXLEY COME OUT ON TOP IN FIVE GOAL THRILLER

Peckham travelled to Sidcup for an early evening encounter with relegation threatened
Bexley FC. Nathan Gamester started in goal with Hassan Omar at right back, captain Nicky Meta at left back and Jeremiah Duah Danso returning to the centre of defence alongside Fareid Yassein. Peter Tarrant and Michael Agyemang started in the centre of midfield with Kieran Dowding starting behind the front three of Camilo Andres Nieva, Chris Weber and Rashane Wilson. On the bench were Raymond Agyemang, Joe Thomas, Yacoub Suleman, Sampson Ofori and Mohamed Bah.

The hosts tactics were evident from the first kick, hoof it forward down the hill and run on to the ball. It almost worked in the opening minute but the resulting shot went inches wide of Nathan Gamester’s goal. Peckham had their moments and probably should’ve opened the scoring just after the half hour mark. Hassan Omar did well down the right to get into the 18 yard box and whipped the ball across the goalmouth, all that was missing was another Peckham player to tap it home at the far post. Nathan Gamester made then two great saves to deny the hosts, the first on 35 minutes, the second three minutes later, tipping a long range effort over for a corner. It was from the corner that the hosts took the lead in the 39th minute as Peckham frantically tried to clear the ball as it pin-balled around the 6 yard box.

Half time came and Mary Phillip made her first change before the restart, Yacoub Suleman replacing Rashane Wilson. But it was the hosts that struck again after a bizarre hand ball from captain Nicky Meta. There was a hint of offside in the build up and as the ball deflected high into the air the Peckham captain mistimed his jump and the ball hit his hand as it came back down. The official deemed it deliberate and pointed to the spot, the kick sending Natham Gamester the wrong way as Bexley doubled their lead on 51 minutes. Time for another change and captain Nicky Meta made way for Joe Thomas at left back. Peckham battled on and almost got their reward after a great counter attacking move just before the hour mark. Chris Weber collected the ball deep in his own half before playing it out to the right wing for Yacoub Suleman to run onto. The winger ran towards goal and let fly from 15 yards only to see his effort go just wife of the far post.

Another two changes followed soon after, Mohamed Bah replaced Camilo Andres Nieva on 60 minutes and Raymond Agyemang replaced Chris Weber two minutes later. The changes made by Mary Phillip had made so far did reap the rewards as they levelled the game with two goals in two minutes. The first, a 25 yard strike from Raymond Agyemang that went in off the Bexley keeper’s left hand post on 64 minutes,,the equaliser came two minutes later after a deflected cross fell kindly for Yacoub Suleman to hook it home from 8 yards. Peckham continued to push for a winner but the hosts weren’t going to throw the game away and scored a third with just over ten minutes of normal time remaining.

With the light and the hope of another Peckham goal fading fast the official brought the game to a close after only 6 additional minutes, despite there being endless stoppages. Another disappointing result against a team fighting to stay up, but Peckham’s performance was certainly not worthy of another defeat. We return to the Menace Arena on Saturday when we entertain Tenterden Town.
